Undoubtedly roses have the numero uno position in the floral world and make for a perfect gift.  Red roses are a near-universal symbol of love and have come to be closely associated with Valentine’s Day, so much so that their prices skyrocket on this day of love and romance. But do you know an Orange rose is also a perfect choice for Valentine’s Day as this too symbolizes passion, enthusiasm, attraction and desire? Orange roses can also be gifted on anniversaries. Let us take a rose-filled journey with various shades of roses to know their importance and association with various occasions so that you always give the correct rose to your loved ones on their special days.

Red Roses

A bouquet of red roses is also often gifted on marriage or to congratulate someone for a special achievement so it is not that red roses are used only to signify romance. A deep red rose can also be used to convey heartfelt regret. 

Yellow Roses

In the Victorian era yellow roses signified infidelity and jealousy but in the modern age, a yellow rose signifies joy, warmth, caring and friendship of the platonic kind. So it is a perfect gift on Friendship Day but not to your lover.  It is also an appropriate gift for an engagement or on the birth of a baby. 

Pink Roses

 A versatile rose whose various shades convey different meanings. A pink rose signifies elegance, feminity and refinement. Pale pink roses signify admiration and happiness and are a good choice to give at the beginning of a romance or to express sympathy while a bouquet of deeper pink roses can be sent as a thank you gift.

White Rose 

Just like the yellow rose the connotation of a white rose too has undergone a change with the passage of time. Earlier, it used to denote true love but today a white rose denotes humility, honor, virtue and unity. It is also known as the bridal rose hence a perfect gift for a young bride. A white rose can also convey spirituality and sympathy and thus can be used as a funeral flower.

Lavender Roses

This rose symbolizes enchantment and mysticism. The pale purple (lavender)  symbolizes love at first sight thus it is a perfect Valentine’s Day flower while the darker shade (Purple) symbolizes royalty and so can be a perfect gift for your boss.  

Then there are some roses available with the florists which are dyed like the black rose and the blue rose.

Black Roses

A black rose is not found naturally and is a dyed rose that can be used as a funeral flower as black represents death, goodbye and farewell. A natural black rose is actually a very dark red or purple colored rose. The black rose can also be used to represent the end of a relationship.

Blue Roses

Like the black rose a true blue rose is also not found naturally but is obtained by either dying or genetically modifying a white rose and represents the mysterious or the unattainable so if you receive a bouquet of blue roses then you have a secret admirer who thinks you are so close yet far from him/her.
